Smart Cards in the Work Place
Smart Cards are used in conjunction with a card-reader connected to a computer system to authenticate the user. Web browsers can also use smart card technology to supplement Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for improved security of Internet transactions.
Each employee is provided with a single card that can be programmed for single or multiple functionality ranging from identity and access control to recording attendance as well as for use in the library, canteen, stores, etc. Smart cards can facilitate the automation of administrative processes:
Staff attendance:
With a swipe of the card, attendance is recorded and the database updated.
Payroll processing:
The recorded attendance can be used for payroll processing. In addition, other aspects of payroll such as leave, loans, leave travel allowance, medical allowance, and pay-slip generation can also be easily automated.
Library:
The Card can record borrowing/return of books and payment of dues, late fees, penalties, etc.
Stores/Canteen:
A pre-determined cash value is stored in the card to simulate debit card usage and greatly reduce the number of small cash transactions. Reports: The data recorded can be used to generate appropriate reports, customized to each client's specific requirements. Firstware offers a total package – the cards, the readers and the software.
